The unspoiled nature of Abetone (Cutigliano town, Tuscany)

The Abetone Cutigliano district is an oasis of peace on the Tuscan-Emilian mountains. Its snowy landscape, appreciated by winter sports lovers, is lit up by bright green beech, fir and chestnut trees the the warm season, inviting you to take long walks in the open air. Besides being a prominent Italian ski resort since the 19th century, it offers many opportunities for recreation and relaxation in every season.
The lakes in Pistoia and Modena's provinces, Lago Nero, Scafaiolo Lake and Santo Lake, are among the best destinations for outdoor excursions in the area. They are an enchanting setting for trekking, even in the snow with the help of snowshoes.

Ski slopes

Multipass Ski Area

It contains over 30 runs spread over a 50 km area. Embracing slopes with different characteristics, it allows skiers to try all types of disciplines, from cross country skiing in Regine and Selletta woods, to downhill skiing on Pulicchio's steep slopes. Its highest peak, Mount Gomito, reaches 1,890 meters of altitude.

Doganaccia 2000 Ski Resort

Within its 15 km of ski area, Doganaccia offers ski lovers not only a rich variety of classic ski runs, but also new illuminated slopes for snowboarding, snow tubing and sledding. Suitable for beginners thanks to convenient ski lifts and treadmills. It also includes a fun school camp for children.

Excursions

Abetone Forest Botanical Garden

A 1,400 square-meter Botanical garden, it is home to lush vegetation including local plants from Tuscan mountains and rare samples from nearby provinces, such as field scabious. Inside the park, visitors can admire a rock garden with pond, boulders covered in lichens and Sestaione river. It offers a picnic area near the entrance and is fully accessible for people with disabilities.

San Marcello Piteglio's Suspension Bridge

It is one of the longest suspended pedestrian walkways in the world, stretching for 220 meters between Popiglio and Mammiano Basso on the Lima torrent. Originally used by factory workers, today it welcomes tourists who want to venture on an exciting aerial walk above the valley.

Outdoor activities

Doganaccia 2000 Adventure Park

At Doganaccia's natural amusement park, you will have the opportunity to take part in exciting trekking, climbing, cycling, paragliding and horseback riding sessions with the whole family in complete safety. The park is divided into three routes with different levels of difficulty and includes a spectacular cableway experience.

Abetone Gravity Park

Entirely dedicated to mountain biking, this park is a must-do for people looking for some thrill. One of the largest attractions in Italy, it contains 4 to 6 km trails with different difficulty levels and is served by cable car. Here you can partake into reckless downhill, enduro or freeride sessions and learn how to ride like a pro. It hosts the annual European Downhill Cup.

Pelliccia Horse Riding Center

In Limestre, this riding center organizes ethical riding courses, focusing on the relationship with nature and animals. Here novices will have the chance to see beautiful horses up close and learn how to approach, groom and ride them in the correct way, while experts can train in a unique location, the green Tuscan valleys surrounded by Apennine mountains.

Cultural sites

Cutigliano Town Center

A charming Tuscan village that has retained its ancient atmosphere. Every street offers the opportunity to discover the vast medieval heritage of the town, which houses masterpieces such as the Church of Madonna di Piazza and Palazzo Pretorio with 14th-century insignia on its facade. The town is still lively today with plenty of events, including music shows and food markets.

Astronomical Observatory

A cutting-edge scientific center for the study of meteors and asteroids. Its rotating domes house an advanced 60-centimeter Newton reflector telescope among other instruments. Visitors can participate to interesting lectures and feel closer to the stars.

Reachable on foot from Baita Belvedere (1.5 km), this farm restaurant offers home-style cooking. Its menu includes traditional specialties made with organic ingredients, such as fresh handmade pasta prepared with characteristic, local wheat.
